Day 1

On Sunday 20th November, the mobility in Malta took place and we were the hosts. It was the day we greeted the other Erasmus students who came from different countries – Spain, Finland, Poland, France and us, the Maltese.  Our afternoon mainly focused on getting to know each other. We started with a brief speech from the Maltese teachers, followed with activities together. We also had prepared the room by decorating it with some posters and other information related to our mobility week. One of our teamwork activities was related to discussing our lives in Europe, were we shared positive and negative ideas with each other. Later that night, we indulged in some local party food and sweets that express our culture and traditions.   The whole experience was a very positive one and had a good outcome as we made lots of different friends and we worked on different skills like communication, teamwork, reflection and also enhanced our creative aspects.

Day 2

We started the day with a visit to our school where we were greeted by the head of School. As hosts we gave a tour of our school to our fellow Erasmus+ friends from foreign countries. Some places that we showed them in our school were the biology and chemistry labs, art rooms and the school gardens. After the tour we had a V.R. activity which we had planned weeks before. Then we had a sports activity although due to the rain, we didn’t get to do any sports. Some sports that were played were, football and dodgeball. Later on we left school for an educational visit in Mdina. We walked around while the teachers talked about the brief story of Mdina. Once we were done walking around Mdina we had a treasure hunt. We were divided into groups where each group had a paper filled with questions about Mdina. Together as a group we wandered around Mdina to look for the answers. With everyone’s help we managed to fill all the answers. It was a fun way to learn and explore the rich history of the place.

Day 3

On Tuesday, Ms Monique McCarthy presented information which was about Roles within a Company. We learned about how to assign roles to different team members and budget and manage our resources. Most importantly, we learned how to work in groups where we practised different marketing techniques and learned about what the priorities in marketing and business are.

In our team activity, we presented our work regarding advertising eco-friendly products. From this experience, we learned certain presenting skills such as how to keep eye-contact with our audience and use proper body language. We also learned how to use persuasive language to convince people that buying these products would help the environment and the world’s state.

In our second workshop we set up companies about specific topics such as gender equality and helping the environment. We distinguished our goals for the future of our campaigns and how we plan on advertising our companies. Then, we assigned different roles to groups of people according to their countries, such as designers, managers and illustrators. The companies that we founded will be improved on and presented in France and Belgium.

Day 4

Our destination for the day was Malta’s National War Museum, located in the grounds of Fort St. Elmo in Valletta. The student’s first activity was a tour of the War Museum where we learnt about Malta’s history in World War 2. In the second activity we created a poppy design (a flower representing the war) using lino printing. Whilst in the third activity students, crafted a paper war aircraft, used in World War 2.

The day continued at Lower Barraka where we all witnessed a breathtaking view of Malta’s Harbour. A walk followed amongst Valletta’s historic streets where some students found Valletta’s colourful iconic balconies very unique. The day came to an end at St.John’s Cathedral, where students got to experience a tour of the Catholic Church and got a glimpse of the famous Caravaggio painting ‘The Beheading of St. John’ together with a film about him.

Day 5

On Thursday 24th of November we went on a trip to Gozo. We went by ferry and our first destination was to Ramla l-Ħamra which is found in Nadur. The Ramla l-Ħamra has reddish sand and is the largest bay in Gozo. This beach is a very fascinating beach and our teachers/educators gave us about 15-20 minutes to explore the area and take pictures of the view.

Then we went to the Ggantija Temples and we had some time to roam around. The Ggantija temples are also known as The Giants Temples and they are called that because the rocks are so big it is said that only giants could have carried them. This structure is considered as the oldest structure in the world dating back to 3600-3200B.C .

After that we visited the Cittadella a marvellous mediaeval small city found in Gozo. Afterwards we went for lunch in a typical maltese pjazza in Gozo. After lunch we went to a shopping mall found in Victoria and we had to chance to do some shopping. Some of us
bought a keepsake which will help us remember our beautiful experience of Erasmus+. We then went back to the ferry and back to our hotel in Malta.

Then at end of the day, we had a game night where we talked with the foriegn students to get to know them more. We had a night full of different games which included quizes, and before we left to go to sleep we ended the night by learning some dances from each other.

Day 6

On Friday professor Montebello from The University of Malta came and introduced us to an AI workshop. He explained to us how new and old technology works and how it affects our everyday life, like how smart phones affect us. He explained how society developed with and alongside technology. He also explained how society became more open-minded on things. He told us how technology can be used for good and bad, for example: the most viewed websites are Military, Pornography, Drugs and Pharmacists.

The second workshop we had was about robotics which was coordinated by a team of teachers from the Education Department. They gave us a robot to program. We had to connect the robot to our phone and experiment on it from our phones.

After the workshops we were separated into 2 groups and given a topic to research about and to debate on. The topic was ‘A democratic system that promotes equality between men and women’. We were given about an hour and a half. There was an opposing and proposing team. The debate started with the host introducing the speakers, the topic, and judges. There were 4 speakers on each team and 4 judges. The aim was to learn how to debate in a constructive way and how to respect each other’s opinions.
