What is a Logo?

Logos are symbols made up of text and/or images adopted by an organization to identify products or their work. A  good logo says it all! It explains who you are, what you do and what your priorities are. A logo carries a lot of responsibility with it.

“A logo derives meaning from the quality of the thing it symbolises,
not the other way around.”

Paul Rand

Qualities

of a

Good Logo

  • Keep it simple

  • Make sure it is relevant

  • Aim for a unique logo - one that is easily recognised and understood

  • Commit to memory; ensure that the logo is easily remembered

Task for Students

1. Group yourselves in teams of 3.

2. Each team to brainstorm the title of the project , Evolving Patterns of Diversity, to list possible ideas for the logo. Keep in mind the above listed characteristics for a good logo. A good source for research is Pinterest.

3. Design the logo. The logo may take different dimensions and should be not smaller than A4 but not larger than A3. It could be digital, a 3-dimensional model or art work such as painting or a collage. Please make sure it is finished to perfection, as your work will be uploaded online.

4. Scan (or take a photo of) your final product, and save as JPEG (and PDF if they are to be printed and exhibited).

5. Upload on the corresponding Padlet according to the specific subpages. With each image write a few sentences to explain the motivation behind your logo. It is important that you write your names too. Follow the video below to learn how to use Padlet.

6. Deadline for submission of logo is 24th October for the Maltese students and third week of November for the Austrian students.

7. Between the 26th - 30th November you will be asked to vote for the best Logo. More information about the voting system further down this page!

In this logo we can see some of the landscapes of Malta , Italy and Austria . We have also included the structure of the DNA molecule since this is responsible for the diversity in all species.
